MHO produces over $10 million each year in affordable and workforce housing development, apartment leasing and management, home lending, housing preservation in the form of Emergency Home Repairs for low-income homeowners, and neighborhood revitalization. What will you do as MHO's next Director of Asset Management?
The Director of Asset Management oversees the long-term stewardship and performance of MHO’s affordable housing portfolio. This senior leadership position requires a comprehensive understanding of affordable housing management, strong leadership skills, and the ability to balance financial performance with mission-driven outcomes.
  • Developing and executing a comprehensive annual line of business operating plan
  • Directing and supervising an asset management team with clear role assignments
  • Fostering collaboration across departments (real estate development, resident services, fundraising, and accounting) and with external stakeholders (property management, investors, lenders, and government agencies)
  • Providing strategic recommendations to senior leadership on portfolio management
  • Identifying opportunities to improve portfolio performance and implement new initiatives, specifically a Resident Services Program
  • Analyzing financial statements and real estate proformas to ensure properties meet or exceed financial performance targets
  • Managing the portfolio debt schedule for refinancing coordination and preparing and submitting property tax exemption applications
  • Identifying opportunities to improve portfolio performance and implement new initiatives
  • Managing refinancing, rehabilitation, and disposition of properties as needed
  • Work with property management to address urgent resident concerns that pose an immediate threat to health, safety and wellbeing including natural disasters
  • Work with property management to ensure resident well-being and safety while monitoring property operations, occupancy, and physical conditions
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable affordable housing regulations and funding requirements
  • Oversee preparation of regular financial and monitoring reports on portfolio performance

Key lived experiences attributes, and skillsets sought in a Director of Asset Management
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Real Estate, or related field; MBA or related education preferred
  • 7-10 years of progressive experience in affordable housing asset management or equivalent experience
  • Proven track record of successfully managing a portfolio of real estate-based assets
  • Strong knowledge of affordable housing programs (LIHTC, HOME, Section 8, etc.)
  • Excellent financial analysis and modeling skills
  • Experience managing teams and developing staff
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
Additional Requirements
  • Proficiency in relevant software applications (e.g., property management systems, financial modeling tools, Microsoft Office, or Google Workspace)
  • Willingness to travel as needed to visit properties and attend industry events
​​​​​​​Preferred
  • Certified Housing Asset Manager (CHAM), Certified Property Manager (CPM), or related professional certification
  • Experience with green/sustainable building practices
  • Knowledge of resident services and supportive housing models
Salary is commensurate with experience and is in the $80,000 to $90,000 range. This is a full-time, hybrid position. MHO’s very competitive benefits package includes 100% health insurance coverage for employees, 100% dental insurance coverage for employees, retirement (3% of annual salary provided by MHO), life insurance and short and long term disability.
